Konnichiwa!

I love dining at authentic Japanese restaurants, as I am a big fan of sushi. The menu at these restaurants can be pricey, however, so I have learned to make one of my favorite dishes at home.

Disclaimer: I do not profess to be a sushi expert. To master the art of sushi takes years of practice and training. You can make the recipe below in 10 minutes or less.

The great thing about sushi is, it can be prepared 1,001 different ways. depending on region and culinary tastes. (I once had sweet potato tempura sushi in Toronto that was to die for!)

Ingredients

4 sheets Nori (Untoasted)
1/2 cup sliced carrots
1 cucumber, sliced
2 avocados

Tamari Sauce or Nama Shoyu (for dipping)
Note: You can find these at any store in the asian food or health foods section.

1. Place Nori Sheets on flat surface. Add ingredients equally to middle of each sheet.

2. At this point, you can use a mat to roll the sushi, These mats are very inexpensive, and you can find them at any asian grocery store. (Downside: The instructions will probably be written in Japanese. Ha!)

3. Alternatively, you can do what I do most of the time. Wet your hands, lift the end of the nori sheet and roll it over the ingredients, making a tight roll. Seal the edges of each roll with your finger. Using a wet knife, cut each roll into 4 to 5 pieces.

Enjoy! These makes a nice, quick meal combined with a house salad and ginger dressing.

I have listed other vegetables that I use when making sushi below. Feel free to experiment with your favorite ingredients.

Bell Peppers (Red, Orange, Yellow)
Red Leaf Lettuce
Cilantro
Daikon
Onion
Pickled Ginger

Do you make your own sushi? What combinations do you put together?
