Let It Flow: All About Water
Everyone knows that you should drink 8 glasses of water per day, but how many of us really get our recommended amount? I drink tons of water now, but I haven’t always been so mindful of my daily intake. Just a few years ago, I was addicted to soda. I think I still have remnants of Dr. Pepper pulsating through my veins.
Luckily, I now understand why water is so important. Making a conscious effort to drink more really improved my health and appearance. I hope that it will make a difference in your life too.
Water benefits the body in a plethora of ways. Here are just a few:
- It provides moisture to the skin, giving it a smoother appearance.
- It expels waste by flushing out the toxins in your system.
- It aids in digestion and absorption of nutrients.
We know why it’s imperative to drink lots of water, but sometimes it can be challenging. Here are a few tips to help you meet your goal.
1. Invest in a water bottle or thermos. You can find these online or at your local store, in stainless steel or plastic (BPA-free, please). Make it your daily intention to finish the bottle.
2. Drink it first. Plan to drink your 8 glasses of water each day before you drink tea, coffee, or soda. (Yes, that includes your morning caffeine jolt from Starbucks!). You’ll find that by consuming this much water, you’ll lose your urge for the other beverages. Soon, you’ll instinctively grab a drink of water before you reach for that Coca-Cola.
3. If drinking water is completely new to you, transition by adding a slice of lemon, lime, or orange. This imparts a delightful citrus flavor. Alternatively–this is my favorite–you can add a sprig of fresh mint to your glass. (The fresh herb, not the candy.)
Here’s to a more youthful appearance and a renewed body! Cheers!
What tips have you used to drink more water?

Great post! I love the tip about adding the citrus and mint. It’s true that these additions including herbs such as rosemary and thyme and veggies such as cucumber can not only enhance the taste, but add alkaline properties to your water as well. I did a video on my blog/youtube about this very thing. Thanks for spreading this vital information.

Thanks, Shelley. Hmmm, I never thought adding the other herbs or cucumber. I bet that would taste great too.

Great post. I’m a water fanatic myself but I noticed that I’m an out-of-sight-out-of-mind kind of person. So at the office, I make sure I have my 1.5 litre bottle of water & take a glass almost every hour (well mostly after visits to the bathroom).
My trainer gave me this tip “To avoid a hundred visits to the loo, don’t try to gobble a whole lot of water at once. Take a few sips every now & then”. It works…one glass @ a time.

Matlhodi, that’s a great tip. That’s the only downside to drinking so much water…living in the bathroom, lol.

Just found your blog. Love it! I’m trying to do the water and no sugar thing after a diagnosis of PCOS (yes a thin gal with PCOS!) So I’m building my army of support.
